PRIMARY FUNCTION: Administers general, regional and monitored anesthesia care for scheduled and emergency surgical and obstetrical procedures. Performs anesthesia-rela ted procedures at the discretion of and under the supervision of an attending anesthesiologist. Evaluates patients preoperatively and, in consultation with the attending anesthesiologist, formulates and carries out an anesthesia care plan including monitoring and recording patient reaction to anesthesia and modifying the anesthetic plan accordingly. Safely transports patients to and from an anesthetizing location and ensures appropriate care during the postoperative period. Interacts with staff and patients in a way that shows respect and consideration for the individual. Provides age and developmentally appropriate anesthesia services for infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric inpatient and outpatient populations.
REPORTS TO: Physician Director of Anesthesia / CNO
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONTACTS: All hospital departments, patients, physicians, family and/or friends of patients, community agencies, sales people, visitors.
QUAL IFICATIONS: Credentialed, privileged, and in current good standing according to professional criteria specified by the SJMC's Medical Staff Services by-laws.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than 6 hours per day.
